From collateralized debt protocols and decentralized lending to “no-loss” lotteries, DeFi offers a growing number of interesting new financial products. This novelty, combined with reports of +10% annual returns from lending protocols, is stirring interest among many who have little or no experience with cryptocurrency as well as veterans of the blockchain community. With so many new products and updates being released, it can be difficult to keep up with what different products have to offer and how they work.

To help you get educated and stay up-to-date on the latest news in DeFi, we’ve put together a list of our top 5 favorite resources. From live events and online messaging groups to blogs and Youtube videos, we’ve got you covered no matter what style of learning you prefer.

Without further ado, our top 5 resources for learning about DeFi:

5. DeFi Prime’s Event List

What better way to learn about DeFi than by asking fellow enthusiasts! Run by bZx Marketing Manager Nick Sawinyh, DeFi Prime maintains a list of decentralized financial products, displays the current interest rates offered by various lending protocols, and publishes a blog with all kinds of useful interviews and articles.

Our favorite part of the site, however, is their public list of DeFi events. Nothing brings DeFi to life like being able to talk about what it is and, more importantly, what it means with fellow supporters and those responsible for creating it. The event list covers everything from local meetups to international conferences and includes a form that enables users to submit their own events. If you’re looking to meet like-minded individuals in your area interested in learning about and contributing to the development of DeFi, then DeFi Prime’s event list is the site you want to check out.

4. DeFi on Telegram

If you don’t live close to a major city or just prefer online interaction to IRL, there are still plenty of opportunities to connect with fellow DeFi builders and enthusiasts. The #DeFi movement started as a marketing campaign coordinated by a handful of companies working to build out the ecosystem and the Telegram group they started remains an active hub for communications. As of this writing, the group is closing in on 3000 members. Participants share project updates, discuss various issues affecting the DeFi community, and connect with the individuals responsible for bringing DeFi to life.

3. DeFi on Reddit

The online forum referred to as the “front page of the internet” has long been a popular platform for building communities and sharing information. From the classic r/CryptoCurrency, to the donut-trading r/ETHTraders, the blockchain community has found itself at home among a number of subreddits. There does exist a subreddit called r/DeFi but the most popular subreddit embraced by the DeFi community is r/ethfinance.

In addition to the latest news and opinions on DeFi, r/ethfinance features an AMA (Ask Me Anything) series in which moderators facilitate discussions between businesses and projects associated with DeFi and community members. The nice thing about having a resource like r/ethfinance is that it tends to provide the most up-to-date news on what’s happening in DeFi. If you want to know what the DeFi community will be talking about tomorrow, go ahead and check out r/ethfinance today.

2. DeFi Pulse Analytics

When it comes to providing analytics, nothing beats good visualizations. DeFi Pulse offers a user-friendly dashboard with relevant stats on various projects in the DeFi space. The dashboard separates DeFi products by category and displays the value of the digital assets locked in various protocols as well as the overall value of the assets users have contributed to the ecosystem. In addition to displaying analytics on various DeFi products, DeFi Pulse offers informative articles that help break down basic concepts and mechanics behind the most popular DeFi products and services.

1. Chris Blec’s Youtube Channel

Run by DeFi Global founder Chris Blec, the @ChrisBlec Youtube channel provides high-quality walkthroughs of popular DeFi-related topics like “What is DAI Governance?” and “How is pricing determined on Uniswap?”. A former growth marketer for companies like UFC, Impact Wrestling, One Month, and Designlab, Chris founded DeFi Global in 2019. DeFi Global is dedicated “to providing growth and end-user educational services to projects that are genuine in their interest of furthering the cause of decentralized finance.” If you’re completely new to DeFi and prefer watching videos to scrolling through articles and message boards, you would be hard-pressed to find a better resource than @ChrisBlec on Youtube.

Bonus Resource: The DeFi Weekly Newsletter

We didn’t feel it would be appropriate to promote our own newsletter in the “Top 5” list but we sincerely believe it’s one of the best resources available for staying up-to-date with what’s happening in the DeFi space. The newsletter covers updates from all projects in the DeFi space, interesting debates and conversations playing out in the community, and relevant statistics that demonstrate the growth of the ecosystem.
